Sustainable fashion through the lens of creative young designers

Hand patching, knitting, and yarning on recycled materials have brought a new life to discarded materials and turned them into something refreshing and more interesting than their original selves.
The graduate fashion designers from the London College for Design & Fashion Hanoi have used their creativity to create such unique designs on the runway of the Graduate Fashion Week 2020 – Enrichment.
Enrichment is an opportunity for change, seeking and elevating the less-desirables and ordinary things in life. Through the creative lens from our graduates, waste materials will be enabled, old products being enhanced, common stories being engaged and our society being enriched.
Traffic incident has always been an issue in Vietnam. With Admonitio fashion collection, Designer Luong Ngoc Quynh wants to raise people’ awareness and encourage us to seek for solutions in order to protect not only ourselves individually but also everyone around.
Also concerning about environmental issues, Ngoc Quynh prioritizes the multi-purpose clothes in her designs. An outfit can be worn in 2 different ways depends on personal taste and can be combined with other items of the collection.
Bui Tra My’s Forgetten color was inspired by Dong Ho paintings and the classic look of Northern Vietnam women during the Indochina era.
The collection includes re-usable fabrics, shredded cloths in order to fully demonstrate Dong Ho paintings on the final garments.
Some materials used in the collection are produced in Vietnamese which helped to restrict emissions from transportation
LOL by Le Tran Van Khanh is a harmonious combination of futuristic elements such as virtual reality games, technology, cyberpunk and polytheism of ancient Egyptian civilization as well as combat wear.
Believes that the fashion industry should always focus on sustainaility, Van Khanh used leftover fabric and cotton from her previous collections to represents the futuristic elements and pleated linen is influenced by the ancient Egypt.
The concept of Dystopia by Nguyen Tuan Anh is based around the images of a future world, wherein our lives are manipulated and controlled by technology and social media. People start to form fragmented personalities and create mask for themselves
The combination of television stripes, transmission lines and the multi-faceted advertisements of consumerism featured on the pattern and texture of his collection.
The unique point of texture utilization in this collection is the inclusion of recycle materials. With leftover leather from the previous collections, Tuan Anh patched pieces by pieces. And although the leather surface is no longer glossy or perfect but somehow it profoundly expresses the message of the collection.
Healing the soul by Tran Vu Ngoc Anh was inspired from a Nigerian musician, Fela Kuti, especially his free and flamboyant style.
Ngoc Anh would like to focus on exploring the limit of combining African traditional prints and retro Western fashion. From the flared trousers, matching waistcoats to oversized blazers, this collection is a tribute to fashion lovers from the era of club music.
The color scheme of the collection is bright, bold and the main colors used are yellow and orange which are symbols of positivity and optimism.
Most of the materials used in the collection are natural and bio degradable. The yellow hues are obtained through natural dying techniques using turmeric powder and avocado skin to minimize the negative impacts on the environment.
Patterns of Thoughts by Nguyen Bao Dung is made entirely of fabric scraps and deconstructed old garments.
The collection introduces a wide selection of materials collected from various places around the world such as America and Europe.
The designs in this collection represent no rules. People are entitled to dress these garments in anyway they prefer.
Fashion Collection of Beyond original by Designer Vu Khanh Linh is inspired by observatory journey of personal emotions. Color scheme including the transformative colors of sunshine throughout the day feature the time’s changing, set the mood of the collection and enhance the feelings of hopefulness.
The collection is used friendly materials to bring a new life cycle to discarded materials and makes them become more modern with craft techniques like hand patching and knitting.
Each collection represents a beacon of hope, attempting to undo the hardships we have placed up on our environment, to inspire others to take action and become more responsible with our planet and society.
