Programme Leader: Graphic Design & Illustration

​Simon Hinchliffe is an Art Director, Designer, and former Professor of Practice at the University of Arizona’s School of Art. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Information Graphic Design from the University of Westminster and a master’s degree in Graphic Communication from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, before launching his design career in the United States.

With over 25 years of professional experience at the highest level, Simon is passionate about design and has worked across a range of disciplines, including information architecture, user interface design, print, and brand development. He has provided design consulting services to leading agencies and global brands such as Denny’s, BBC Worldwide, Nickelodeon, Verizon, Mattel, Arthrex, Universal Pictures (E.T. and Jurassic Park brands), Coldplay, MTV, and the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.

Simon’s work has been recognized with several prestigious international design awards, including honors from The Royal Society of Arts, Benson & Hedges, the Wynkyn de Worde Society, the British Printing Industries Federation, and the Webbys.

His teaching specialties include introductory design studio, branding and identity systems, and infographics & data visualization. Simon’s teaching philosophy emphasizes a real-world design perspective, encouraging students to adopt industry-standard methodologies to better understand the complexities of design.
