Pr. Douglas MacLennan

Pro. Douglas Maclennan has worked in the world of fashion and fashion Higher Education for more than fifty years. He is respected and admired by his peers, students and key players within the fashion industry.

Graduating from Central Saint Martins School of Art & Design in 1969 with the accolade of his work being selected for permanent exhibition, to represent the best of 1960’s fashion by the world renowned Victoria & Albert Museum, London. Following graduation, he was the resident designer at two successive international textile companies in Hong Kong. His talent in the world of fashion design becoming well known internationally, with his work being exhibited as far afield as Dusseldorf, Milan, London and Hong Kong.

Following involvement in teaching, he has lectured in fashion at his alma mater, Central Saint Martins, the University of Northumbria, UK, Academy of Design, Sri Lanka & London College of Design & Fashion Vietnam. Douglas has nurtured the talent and ambitions of literally thousands of students, many of whom have gone on to work for household names such as, Nike, Gap, Bernard Chaus, Louis Vuitton, Selfridges, Joseph, Celine, Lanvin, Givenchy, Abercrombie & Fitch, DAKS, Escada, Ralph Lauren/Polo NY, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Jaeger, Topshop and Aquascutum, Pleasure Inc., or have become successful designers in their own right.

Douglas’s enthusiasm for fashion and his commitment to teaching have been widely recognised by his peers in the UK and overseas having been invited to act as an external examiner globally for up to 37 universities and colleges.

His contribution to the industry was recognised in 2004 with the ‘Fashion Famous Person’ award at the Shanghai International Fashion Federation Awards.

A founder Member of the British Fashion Council College Forum in 1991, the longest serving Executive Member and now Chair of the British ‘Graduate Fashion Foundation’ charity, is very strong evidence of his global recognition in the industry.
