About this Course

Fashion Forecasting for Beginners short course will give you theoretical knowledge of how and why trends are born and adopted, including the impacts of social, political, environmental and technological changes happening all around us.

You will also be given the creative and practical skills to develop a trend forecast and apply this to a creative fashion outcome of your choosing.

Analyzing macro and micro trends, as well as using trend forecasting platforms such as WGSN, will enable you to better understand how fashion businesses operate and how they target their customers creatively through trend forecasting reports.

Through a selection of presentations and workshops, you will learn the fundamentals of how to predict and produce your very own fashion forecasting mood board, develop a concept for a specific season, a colour palette, and key silhouettes and fabrics. Using the method of applying fashion forecasts within the design process, you will have the option to produce either a range of fashion design ideas or a fashion photoshoot for a lookbook.

Lesley-Ann O'Connel

Fashion Marketing and Communication Lecturer (part-time)

Lesley-Ann O'Connell is a Fashion lecturer with 14 years of experience teaching and managing courses in the UK and internationally. She has held significant academic positions like Fashion Lecturer and Course Leader within further and higher education at renowned institutions such as the Amsterdam Fashion Academy, Leeds Arts University, and Liverpool John Moores University. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design from the University of the West of England and a Master's degree in Fashion Innovation & Realisation from Liverpool John Moores University. During her Master's program, she developed her own fashion company and collaborated with small and emerging brands.

Ms. Lesley-Ann has also worked as a Fashion Designer for high street fashion brands in the UK such as Next and Monsoon... and has exhibited her photography and illustration work nationally.

Course outcomes

By the end of this course, you will have developed an understanding of how trends are born and adopted, and the impact of that on the world around us.

Having created your own trend forecast, you will and the confidence to start applying your forecasting skills to a range of fashion-related outcomes. You will leave the course with a better insight into how the fashion industry works, from fashion design to communication, all of which work with trend forecasting tools to optimise their business. You can use the produced work in your portfolio.
